Wellbeing

At Somerville Primary School, wellbeing is central to helping students feel safe, supported and ready to learn. Through programs such as Respectful Relationships, Friendology, Cyber Safety and Toast & Talk, students build resilience, positive relationships, confidence and a strong sense of belonging.

Wellbeing Programs

Resilience,
Rights and Respectful
Relationships Program

Our school uses the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program as a foundation for our wellbeing sessions.

These learning materials have been designed to develop students’ social and emotional skills and promote positive relationship skills. We know that using these resources will build the social and emotional skills and create positive gender norms in children which in turn will improve health outcomes and wellbeing. The program also aims to reduce antisocial behaviours
including engagement in gender-related violence.

The materials cover eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning across all year levels. The eight topics include:

  • Emotional Literacy
  • Personal Strengths
  • Positive Coping
  • Problem Solving
  • Stress Management
  • Help Seeking
  • Gender and Identity
  • Positive Gender Relationships

The lessons are engaging and interactive, allowing students opportunities to practise new skills and build on peer relationships.

Friendology

The Friendology Program is implemented to support students in developing positive, respectful, and healthy relationships with their peers. Strong friendships play a vital role in students’ wellbeing, confidence, and sense of belonging at school. This program helps students understand what healthy friendships look like, how to communicate effectively, and how to manage challenges such as conflict, exclusion, or peer pressure in a positive way.

The program is effective because it uses engaging, age-appropriate activities and real-life scenarios that students can relate to. Through guided discussions, role-playing, and reflection, students build skills in empathy, resilience, and problem-solving. By promoting kindness, inclusion, and respectful behaviour, the Friendology Program strengthens social skills and contributes to a supportive and connected school community.

Cyber Safety
Project

Our school uses the Cyber Safety Project to supplement our wellbeing sessions.

The Cyber Safety Project is implemented to help students navigate the online world safely, responsibly, and confidently. As digital tools and social media play a growing role in learning and everyday life, it is essential that students understand how to protect their personal information, recognise online risks, and make respectful choices online. This project supports students in developing strong digital citizenship skills that align with school values and community expectations.

The project is effective because it is age-appropriate, practical, and focused on real-life situations students may encounter online. Through interactive lessons, discussions, and scenarios, students learn how to stay safe, respond to cyberbullying, manage their digital footprint, and seek help when needed. By building awareness and encouraging positive online behaviour, the Cyber Safety Project empowers students to use technology in a safe, informed, and responsible way; both at school and beyond.

Toast & Talk

Wednesday is Toast and Talk day at Somerville Primary School where students can come to the Wellbeing Hub to have a piece of freshly cooked toast to fill their bellies before a day of learning! This is made possible from the generosity of Baker’s Delight Somerville who have been supporting this program for over 9 years!
