Extra-Curricular
Extra-curricular opportunities at Somerville Primary School give students the chance to explore new interests, build confidence and create lasting memories beyond the classroom. Through camps, excursions, sport, Wakakirri and the Art Show, students develop teamwork, creativity, resilience and school pride.
Camps and
Excursions
Camps and excursions are an exciting and valued part of learning at Somerville Primary School. These experiences take students beyond the classroom, helping them build independence, resilience and real-world understanding.
Whether it is a local excursion that connects to classroom learning or a multi-day camp filled with adventure, each opportunity encourages students to challenge themselves, discover new interests and strengthen friendships.
Our excursions are thoughtfully planned to enrich the curriculum, offering hands-on learning in engaging environments. Camps provide a chance for students to develop teamwork, confidence and problem-solving skills while creating memories they will carry with them for years.
At Somerville Primary School, we believe learning happens everywhere, and our camps and excursions are a wonderful way for students to explore, grow and experience the world around them.
Wakakirri
Wakakirri is a highlight at Somerville Primary School, held every second year and giving students a vibrant opportunity to express themselves through storytelling, dance and performance.
As part of this national festival, our students work together to create a Story-Dance that celebrates creativity, teamwork and imagination.
From brainstorming ideas to rehearsing on stage, students develop confidence, collaboration skills and a strong sense of achievement. Wakakirri encourages every child to shine, whether they are performing, helping with props or contributing behind the scenes.
Participating in Wakakirri is not just about the final performance; it is about the joy of creating something meaningful as a team. It is an experience our students remember long after the applause fades.
Art Show
The Somerville Primary School Art Show is a vibrant celebration of creativity, imagination and student expression. Held every second year, this special event transforms our school into a colourful gallery showcasing artwork from every year level.
Students explore a wide range of artistic techniques throughout the year, and the Art Show gives them the chance to proudly share their creations with families and the wider community.
From paintings and sculptures to mixed-media pieces and collaborative projects, the Art Show highlights the diverse talents of our students and the rich learning that happens in our Visual Arts program. It is a joyful event that brings our community together and inspires students to see themselves as artists.
At Somerville Primary School, we believe creativity is an essential part of learning, and our Art Show is a wonderful way to celebrate the artistic achievements of every child.
