Somerville Primary School

CHAPLAIN CHAT

A warm and big HELLO to all staff, parents, carers and children of Somerville Primary School.

I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as your new School Chaplain, and feel very privileged to be part of this wonderful school community.

Chaplaincy is not a religious program, but a welfare based program.  My approach is holistic, and my role as School Chaplain is to support the emotional, social and mental well-being of the children (and their families), and to help them find a better way to deal with a whole range of issues - such as family breakdown, family bereavement or crisis, loneliness, depression, anxiety, behavioural and social problems, low self-esteem, and the like.

My job is to provide a listening ear and a caring presence, and to help those in need to find strategies to cope with their circumstances and behaviours- and when necessary, to refer students/families to the appropriate professionals.  My goal is to provide a safe and non-judgemental environment in which children and families can work through any issues or concerns they may have.

I WILL BE AVAILABLE AT SOMERVILLE EVERY THURSDAY AND EVERY 2nd WEDNESDAY.

I will be available to all parents, carers and children for a cuppa and chat.

I will continue to visit classrooms, will be available for one-on-one sessions, group or family sessions, and will be outside some recess and lunch-times …and after school so that I can meet as many of the school community as possible.

Please note: I am always available for any crisis/ priority situation that requires immediate help. e.g., sudden separation of parents, death in the family, etc. so please make Mr. Haley and myself aware of any crisis so that we can help support you.  WE CANNOT HELP IF WE DON’T KNOW! <3

As you become aware of problems and concerns, please feel free to come and talk to me, Mr Haley or your child's teacher about these issues, and together we can discuss a course of action. A Referral form needs to be filled out by either the teacher or parent, and a parent consent form needs to signed.   Once I have both the Referral and Permission forms back signed I am then able to bring the child/family into the Chaplaincy program.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to come and see me -I’d love to meet you!

Blessings,

Chaplain Kylie
